“Daisy… Daisy”
“Daisy, wake up”
“Daisy please, wake up”
Her eyes open softly, the bright light hurts them. A hand appears in front of her bloody face and she grabs it with hers and is lifted up. She started to look around, all she sees is green and a couple of trees losing their leaves. The soft hand that helped her up started rubbing the blood off her face. Daisy moved away from the hand and looked behind her. A cloud of smoke was floating near the crashed car behind her. Tears started to stream down Daisy’s eyes as the flash of events started to come back to her.
“Daisy” Said the girl standing with her.
“Rose” Daisy said
“We have to go, your hurt Daisy” Rose added while grasping her face.
“We crashed Rose, we crashed, the car, I almost died, you almost died!” Daisy cried out.
She grabbed rose’s waist and pulled her into a hug holding her tightly while Rose kissed her forehead.
The two girls started waking away from the direction they came from. They were lost, hurt and afraid, not knowing where they were going. All they knew is that they were going far far away from home.
Night had soon fallen and the two girls took cover under a tree. Daisy would be the first to sleep while Rose took first watch. Daisy laid her head on Rose’s lap and closed her eyes but sleep did not find her.
“Daisy you must sleep” Rose said
“I can’t, I’m too afraid to close my eye. I see him when I do. I know he’s still looking for us Rose.” Daisy said to her.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let him hurt you” Rose added and kissed Daisy. She rubbed her head and hummed a song until Daisy was sound asleep.
Rose watched her as she slept, all she cared about was that she was safe. Daisy never had it easy, her whole life she lived in fear from her own family, from her own home. Her father was a drunk and her mother was a coward whose only pass time’s where going to church and yelling at her children. When Daisy was ten her older brother brought home a black girl. He claimed he wanted to marry her but before he did he wanted his family to meet her. When Daisy’s parents saw the girl they kicked both her brother and the young girl out. “A black girl in my home!” Daisy’s mother had shouted, “do you want to shame our family!” Added the father “get out of my house and when you come back she better be gone or else you will!”. Daisy never saw her brother again after that day. Apparently, he ran away with the young girl and went far far far away to marry her without the fear of his father finding them.
When Daisy met Rose, it was the happiest yet scariest day of her life. She never knew what actual love felt like until she laid her eyes on her. They went to the same all-girl catholic school. Rose always sat in the front. Daisy would stare at her all day, watching has her long blond locks fell to her waist and how her eyes matched the sky. She loved the way she would listen to the teacher so passionately, how she wasn’t afraid to give her opinion no matter how much it angered the teacher. Not many people liked Rose, but Daisy did, and Rose knew that. She could see Daisy looking for the nerve to go talk to her.
Daisy was a very beautiful girl. Her long red hair made everyone stop and watch. Rose liked her very much, probably because of how different she was from her. Daisy was shy and quiet. She always sat at the back at the class and never spoke unless spoken to. She was proper and never did anything wrong, Rose liked that about her.
One day after school Daisy was sitting under a tree, much like the one she was sleeping under now. Rose decided to go see her and sat down next to her. She started to speak, talking about how much she hated the school they went to. Daisy didn’t say anything as Rose went on as if they were long-time friends. Rose could see the confusion in Daisy’s eyes as she spoke.
“I’m Rose by the way” She suddenly said putting her hand out so Daisy could shake it.
“My name is Daisy” she replied taking her hand.
The two girls smiled at each other and Rose started talking about her life and stories she’s heard about.
Ever since that Tuesday afternoon, the two girls would always meet under the same tree to tell each other stories about their day and themselves. Daisy found herself falling more and more for Rose. Rose would always walk Daisy home, or at least halfway home. Daisy didn’t want her parents to see Rose and that hurt her a little.
A couple of weeks passed and Rose was sitting in the classroom but Daisy wasn’t there sitting with her. She thought nothing of it the first day, but it happened a second and a third time. Daisy was gone. Rose knew where she lived even if she never walked her all the way. She went to Daisy’s home and knocked on the door three times. A tall overweight man with a long beard opened the door. His features frightened Rose.
“Is Daisy home?” She asked
The father looked at her suspiciously
“And who might you be looking for my daughter?” He asked
“A friend from school. I noticed she hadn’t been to class and thought I would bring her her homework” Rose added
“She won't be needing that” He replied and closed the door in her face.
Rose didn’t want to leave without knowing where Daisy was. She walked to the back of the house and looked through the window until she noticed Daisy. The window was half open so Rose quietly shouted Daisy’s name. The girl looked out of the window and saw Rose standing there. Daisy’s face turned red with fear and she closed the window and walked away.
Rose didn’t understand and was too heartbroken to want to understand. She didn’t try to get her attention anymore and left the house.
The next morning, Daisy walked out of her home with bags in her hands. A car was waiting for her outside with a boy standing next to it. She put the bags in the trunk of the car and was about to step inside when she saw Rose’s shadow standing across the street with her eyes filled with tears. They stared at each other for a moment until Daisy’s father grabbed her and pulled her towards the car. Rose ran up to Daisy and blocked the door to the car. She then grabbed Daisy and pulled her away from everyone and kissed her. Seconds after their lips touched Daisy’s father grabbed Rose and punched her in the face. Blood was pouring from her mouth.
“Stop!” Shouted Daisy.
Rose stood up and backed away afraid.
Daisy’s father grabbed her “you disgrace to this family you are no better than your brother. You disgust me and bring shame to me and your mother.” He raised his hand ready to strike his daughter but Rose grabbed Daisy and pulled her away from him. She pushed Daisy into the car and pushed the boy out of the way and jumped in. She started the car with the keys that were left inside and drove off.
“Call everyone and get that girl back here, I don’t care if we have to kill her to get her back!” Shouted Daisy’s father.
There was complete silence in the car, Daisy was crying and Rose was holding back her tears.
“What’s wrong with you!” Shouted Daisy. “Look what you did! Look what you did! He’s going to kill us, Rose!” She cried. Daisy kept on crying and yelling, her heart was racing she was freaking out…
“Daisy… Daisy.”
“Daisy wake up”
“Daisy please, wake up”
Daisy’s swollen eyes opened, it was morning.
“Rose. Oh, Rose, I’m so sorry, I didn’t wake up, you didn’t have a turn to sleep” Daisy said
“No it’s okay Daisy, I slept” Rose replied, but that was a lie.
Daisy’s body was still weak from the crash so Rose had to help her walk. Rose was tired of carrying Daisy but she wasn’t going to stop, not until they found somewhere to stay, somewhere to heal.
It seemed like it would never happen, but there was a village that finally came into view. Rose was barely hanging on anymore, Daisy’s body became heavier and heavier.
“Help! Help!” Shouted Rose hoping someone would hear.
A woman walked out if a house nearby and when she saw the two bloody girls she rushed over. It didn’t take long for them to be brought to a hospital. Rose and Daisy got separated, each of them sent into different rooms to get checked for injuries. Rose was cleared with a minor concussion, it wasn’t anything serious, but you couldn’t say the same for Daisy.
Daisy’s body was buried in the village’s cemetery where Rose built her new life. The crash hit Daisy harder then it did Rose. She had a severe concussion and major internal bleeding in the brain. Rose was never able to forgive herself. She visited Daisy’s grave every day. Every year on the anniversary of Daisy's death Rose would place a flower on the tomb. When Rose passed, she was buried next to her.
A couple of days after Rose passed away, rose’s started to grow over Daisy’s grave...
